Granary Foodstore Wellington Squares

One of our most popular sweet treats at the Granary Foodstore are the Wellington Squares. Few can resist the delicious combination of the crunchy biscuit base with the sweet caramel covered in chocolate. Here is our secret recipe so you can make them at home too…

Biscuit Base 

10oz Plain Flour

3oz Caster Sugar

8oz Butter

 

– Blitz together in a blender or rub together with fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs.

– Press into a 9″ square tin and bake @ 140 degrees in a conventional oven until golden brown.

– Allow the biscuit base to cool fully.

 

Toffee Filling 

400g Can of Condensed Milk

6oz Butter

1 large tbsp of Golden Syrup

 

-Melt together in a saucepan over a medium heat, bringing to the boil slowly.

-Stir the toffee mixture continuously.

-Let it boil for 2-3 mins & then reduce the heat while continuing to stir.

-The toffee mixture will thicken & go golden brown.

-Pour onto biscuit base & allow to cool at room temperature, ideally overnight.

 

To finish…..

12oz milk chocolate

 

-Melt 12oz of milk chocolate & pour over the toffee layer.

-Allow the chocolate to harden before cutting it into squares.

-Enjoy a well deserved welly square…..
